a discussion seminar in mechanical engineering
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering – University of Anbar, organized, in the presence of Asst. Prof. Dr. Khaldoon Fadhel Brethee, Head of the Department, and as part of the activities of postgraduate students for the academic year 2025–2026, a discussion seminar on Tuesday, 3 February 2026.
Title:
“Intelligent Structural Health Monitoring of Energy System Components Using Machine Learning and Operational Modal Analysis”
Presented by the graduate student: Mohammed Majid Zabar
Supervised by: Asst. Prof. Dr. Khaldoon Fadhel Brethee
The discussion committee consisted of:
Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Nouri Owaid (Chairman)
Asst. Prof. Dr. Arz Yahya Razik (Member)
Asst. Prof. Dr. Sattar Abd Mutlak (Member)
Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) aims to ensure safety and reliability; however, traditional methods are slow and may fail to detect early damage. Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) provides direct data on structural behavior during operation, but its interpretation is complex. Machine Learning (ML) techniques can address this challenge through automation and anomaly detection. This research aims to develop an intelligent SHM framework that integrates OMA and ML to accurately and real-time detect and predict structural faults.
