The University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Engineering held a workshop on Sunday, April 5, 2026, in Al-Battani Hall at the Department of Electrical Engineering, entitled:

The Danger of Intellectual Extremism to Society

The workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Ma’na Waleed Naji, a faculty member at the college.

During the workshop, he explained the impact of intellectual extremism on society, describing it as one of the most serious phenomena that threaten societal security as a whole. He emphasized that it is a complex issue shaped by multiple factors and influenced by varying temporal and spatial conditions. Therefore, it cannot be attributed to a single cause or theory; rather, it stems from a combination of causes and factors, among which the most important are:

Family and social factors: The family is one of the most influential elements in shaping an individual's personality, behavior, and direction.

He also highlighted the role of academic and media institutions and their influence on (youth) in promoting moderation, rejecting extremism, and encouraging coexistence.

Undoubtedly, youth represent a vital component of political dynamics in any society. They are the most affected age group by social changes occurring during different stages of development. Moreover, they possess a high level of social awareness, making them more likely to be targeted as a significant social force capable of political influence.

Furthermore, the youth stage is considered one of the most sensitive periods of social development, during which individuals are more inclined toward engaging in violence compared to other stages. This is due to their physical and psychological characteristics, which make them more emotional and ambitious in striving to achieve their aspirations and self-realization
